YouTube

Stampy, KSI, PewDiePie, Zoella  -- the names may not mean anything to you , but your children (in our research in Primary Schools  from age 7 upwards ) certainly know them.  The hosts film themselves talking about their lives, their hobbies, doing pranks, putting on makeup, playing games, destroying phones and even opening boxes,  and although the content is baffling for most adults, these "celebrities"  host some of  the most popular YouTube channels for young people.

A 2014 (yes its been going on that long !) survey of U.S. teens by Variety, the top five most influential celebrities are YouTube stars and an appearance by them can fill a stadium or a book signing and earn them millions,  through endorsements,  advertising and merchandising . Two of our most popular UK You Tubers,  Zoella and Alfie,  even have their own waxwork figures in Madame Tussauds !

However,  information about these channels  -- age-appropriateness, content and quality, isn't easy for parents and teachers  to find.. have a look at these two sites to catch up and learn to deal with it !
